Kim’s Jiu Jitsu journey began in 2012 under Professors Andy and Mike Main at Pure MMA in Denville, NJ, earning her blue belt in December 2013. She continued her training at SubForce BJJ in Lyndhurst, NJ under Professors Marcos Duarte and Abraham Awad. After moving to Colorado in 2015, Kim trained at Easton Training Center, advancing her Gi skills with Professor Ian Lieberman and earning her purple belt. In 2017, she transitioned to NoGi training with Professor Eliot Marshall and Professor Jared McLuskey receiving her brown belt in 2019. Following her move to Crested Butte in 2020, Kim trained at the Dank Arts Dojo (garage gym) and Gunnison Jiu Jitsu before founding Ahimsa Jiu Jitsu. In 2025, she was awarded her black belt by Professor Jared McLuskey, co-owner of BRD BJJ.
Grateful for the opportunity to train at multiple academies and learn from exceptional instructors and training partners, Kim has developed both technical range and mental resilience through her journey. Exploring different styles and transitioning between Gi and NoGi has allowed her to dive deeply into the art of movement, cultivating resilience, strength, and growth both on and off the mat.
For Kim, Jiu Jitsu is the Yang to Yoga’s Yin. She completed her 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training with Lily Russo in Mancos, CO in 2023 and is currently pursuing her 300-hour certification at the Inner Peace Yoga Therapy Program. Whether on the Jiu Jitsu mat or the yoga mat, Kim believes that showing up fully quiets the mind, strengthens the body and brings a smile to her face.
